SoulCycle Owner Faces Boycotts over Trump Fundraiser

You know things have gotten really bad when someone who is successful and influential in our society gets a ton a backlash for throwing a fundraiser for President Trump.

The news came out on August 7, 2019, that billionaire Stephen Ross is throwing a fundraiser for President Trump at his Hampton’s mansion on Friday, August 9, 2019. The Twitter universe was lit up with Tweets from celebrities who called for a boycott of fitness clubs Equinox and SoulCycle as Ross in an investor in both companies.

As a matter of fact, Ross who is a real estate developer is the chairman and founder of the Related Companies which are comprised of: Equinox, SoulCycle, Pure Yoga, & pizza, Bluestone Lane Coffee and Momofuku. Mr. Ross also led the development of the Time Warner Center and Hudson Yards.

Equinox and SoulCycle panicked and issued statements on social media platforms that, “SoulCycle/Equinox in no way endorses the political fundraising event being held later this week. SoulCycle/Equinox has nothing to do with the event and does not support it.”

What is most interesting is Mr. Ross is 79 years old and has known President Trump for over 40 years. This is important because his relationship with Trump predates Trump running for office which is being overlooked by the media.

Further, Mr. Ross is a well-respected and successful businessman who has created thousands of jobs in and around New York. There is no doubt that Mr. Ross has every right to do what he wants with his money and host whatever fundraiser that he so chooses. Come to think of it, was there so much concern when Obama held fundraisers in the Hamptons when he was President.

I don’t think that anyone is protesting the Jon Bon Jovi fundraiser in the Hamptons for Cory Booker…
